Insolroll Compliance with California Proposition 65

Updated August 30, 2018

In 1986, California voters approved Proposition 65, an initiative to address their growing concerns about exposure to toxic chemicals. That initiative is officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcements Act of 1986, and informally known as Prop 65.

New Prop 65 Regulations Requirements

  • The State of California must publish a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.
  • Manufacturers such as Insolroll must provide “clear and reasonable” warnings for users of products containing any of the chemicals from the California Prop 65 list, to include the name of one more chemicals and their risk category, or “endpoint”.

The most significant changes for consumer products:

  • Risk categories, or endpoints, must now be listed separately.
  • One or more present chemicals on the current Prop 65 list must be specifically identified in the warning for each endpoint.
  • Wording of warning has changed from “may contain” to “can expose you to” a listed chemical.
  • Warning must include the official Prop 65 web address where additional information about the list, the chemicals, the methods of exposure, and ways to reduce or eliminate exposure can be found.

All Insolroll® & Oasis® Products Are Fully Compliant With California Proposition 65

Most building and furnishing products contain chemicals that may require labeling to be compliant. Insolroll manufactures custom window shades and patio shades, and every shade contains a different combination of fabric, hardware, and operators. All Insolroll and Oasis Shades contain aluminum, steel, or stainless steel components from a variety of suppliers that can expose you to chromium (hexavalent compounds), an element included on the Prop 65 chemical list for both risk endpoints. Chromium has been used since the mid-1800s to add corrosion resistance, durability, and hardness in these and other metals to instill the performance characteristics required by the products made with them.

Insolroll complies with the new regulations by providing consumers with point-of-sale warnings and product warning labels according to the initiative’s requirements for a “clear and reasonable” warning.
